The Santa Monica Police Activites League (PAL) will award 11 youth with post-high school eduation scholarships totaling $37,000 at PAL’s annual Recognition Dinner on May 6, 2019. Many of the scholarship recipients have been members of PAL since the age of six and have benefitted from PAL’s free afterschool educational, fitness and leadership programs.
These youths’ achievements will be celebrated along with the generosity of major donors who have contributed greatly to the success of PAL as a whole. Now in its 17th year, PAL has awarded more than 100 need-based scholarships totaling $280,000. Many of these scholarship recipients are the first in their families to attend college. Some institutions students attended are Santa Monica College, University of California at Berkeley, University of Southern California, California State University Los Angeles, Mount St. Mary’s College, and University of Hawaii.
After completion of their high school senior year, scholarship recipients are able to redeem these funds upon providing proof of enrollment to a two or four year college or university. Students have been able to use the funds to pay for tuition, books and other necessities that are needed for college.
Santa Monica PAL is a private/public partnership, and a 501©3 that is operated by the City of Santa Monica. The non profit PAL Board of Directors fundraises for programs and activites for youth ages six through 17 held at the Youth Center at Memorial Park and Fitness Gym at Virginia Avenue Park. The PAL Board of Directors are vested in furthering the education of youth in this community and always seek donations for the most vulnerable youth to have access to higher education. If you are intested in donating to the Chris Carrey PAL Education Fund or becoming a member of PAL please contact the PAL Office at 310-458-8988 or pal@smgov.net.
